The Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026 is ready to welcome visitors from Nov 1, with 20,000–30,000 expected daily.
Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Watcharaphon Khaokham said the main infrastructure and construction work at Nong Dae wetland in Udon Thani's Muang district had been completed, leaving only minor decorative work and exhibition booth preparations to be done.
The expo will run for 134 days until March 14 across nearly 2,000 rai of wetland, with 60-70% of the area covered by water.
Held under the theme "Diversity of Life", the event will showcase 32 gardens from 17 countries, alongside plant competitions, agricultural innovation exhibitions and displays by public and private organisations, Mr Watcharaphon said.
The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have also joined forces to develop water-based attractions highlighting innovations in fisheries and aquatic plants.
Mr Watcharaphon said the expo was expected to attract 20,000-30,000 visitors daily, generating substantial economic benefits and raising Thailand's international profile.
Bookings for flights, hotels, accommodation and restaurants in Udon Thani and seven neighbouring provinces were almost full, he said, reflecting strong interest in the event.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs said the expo, billed as the world's first horticultural exhibition held on a wetland, would prioritise distributing income to local communities.
Farmers and community enterprises have been given opportunities to sell local products, while local agricultural materials, plants and cultural performances will also feature prominently.
After the event, the site will be developed into a public park.
