MANILA, Philippines — There were no Filipinos affected by the heatwave in France, Philippine Ambassador to Paris Eduardo Jose de Vega said on Tuesday.
The Philippine Embassy in Paris last week advised the Filipinos to exercise caution amid the "unprecedented heatwave" sweeping across the country.
"Pinakamainit na naramdaman ko sa buhay ko [eh] dito, for the past several days (It was here that I experienced the hottest days in my life)," de Vega said in a radio interview.
"[Ang] Maganda rito walang naapekto na Pilipino so far (The good thing about it was that no Filipino was affected [by the extreme heat]," he added.
The embassy said exposure to high temperatures posed a significant risk to everyone and particularly to the most vulnerable: the elderly, young children, pregnant women, people with disabilities or chronic diseases or those taking certain medications and people in precarious situations.
Dizziness, malaise, muscle cramps, dehydration are among the effects of the heatwave, the embassy said in an advisory on June 18.
Unless avoidable, stay indoors and keep hydrated, in cases where going out cannot be avoided, make sure to wear light clothing providing proper ventilation, carry water, wet wipes or towel, and other items that may help provide relief.
The embassy advised Filipinos to protect themselves from the heatwave by staying cool, drinking water, and avoiding high-caffeine beverages such as coffee, tea, or high-sugar beverages such as sodas.
"Wet your body, close shutters and windows, favor soft activities, eat fresh and balanced, avoid alcohol, and avoid crowded and poorly ventilated areas," it added.
