A giant fin whale has been seen off the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales.

The world’s second-largest animal – second only to the blue whale – was captured swallowing huge amounts of water during feeding.

Footage taken by Rhys Morgan, a videographer, shows the mammal expanding its pleats.

Mr Morgan said in his social-media post about the incident: “I’ve been lucky enough to see this incredible behaviour several times on my ventures, but I’ve never managed to capture it on the drone, until last week.

“The second-largest whale species in the world making us feel just a little bit smaller out in the middle of the Celtic Deeps.”

Mr Morgan captured the moment by “complete luck”, he told the BBC.

He said: “It’s pretty incredible really. It makes you feel very small out there.”

Mr Morgan, a Pembrokeshire resident, works at an oil refinery but captures footage of sea creatures as a hobby.

The whale was captured feeding in the Celtic Deeps, south-west of Pembrokeshire.

The mammals can grow up to 27m in length. They are known to come to the Celtic Sea between summer and early winter to feed on fish including sprat and young herring.
